Information about the Art Department
In the school year of 2009/2010 art is taught in every grade (5-13), thanks to the 14 colleagues who work in this department. In addition to the two mandatory art lessons that are taught up to grade 11, the pupils also have the possibility to specialize in art by choosing it as a mandatory elective subject in the grades 7-10, or by choosing the art profile for the grades 12 and 13. The contents of the lessons are based on the art curriculum here for further information. The lessons are accompanied by art projects, which are not only interdisciplinary, but also designed for pupils of all age groups. It is the Art Department’s goal to create internal and external perception by taking into account the social historical contexts linked to opening possible courses of action. This sentence at the beginning of the school’s curriculum is supposed to be supported by the following thoughts: LEARNING HOW TO SEE – DEVELOPING CREATIVITY are essential elements for the lessons. With this we hope to sensibilize the way in which the pupils view their surroundings. The perception of their surroundings, and the critical handling of the stimuli and impressions that influence them, are elements of the lessons just like the aesthetical examination of social conditions and historic relations. The focus of the lessons lies on the importance of creativity for the development of a young person. Their own aesthetic practice in the lessons enables pupils to include their own ideas in their work, which then enables them to intensify their theoretic engagement with the topic. Exhibitions in the school and in classrooms also always challenge the pupils to comment on their work. The latest project, which has been organized by the 7th grade, was decorating the new centre for aquatic biology. Read the article here.
