Information about the Department of Music, Dance, and Drama
The Department of Music, Dance, and Drama is interdisciplinary, in the sense of musical education and musical learning not being possible without the controlled and purposeful use of many parts of the body. Dancing and drama are mainly taught in the mandatory elective subjects in the grades 7-10.
The grades 5 and 6 as well as the grades 9 and 10 are taught in whole classes, not in individual working groups. In grade 11 music is a mandatory subject. This is also true for grade 12, but only for those pupils who choose the art profile. The other pupils may choose between music and art as mandatory elective subjects. Ever since the profile model has been implemented into our school system, there are no longer advanced courses in which pupils can take their Abitur (A-Level) exam. After long discussions, there has been a concentration on art, the traditional focus of our school.

At the moment there are 8 teachers teaching in the department, most of whom are working part-time.
The contents of the lessons are based on the former curriculum (there is no new curriculum for music yet) and they have been developed further in collaboration with other comprehensive schools.
Next to the usual work in the lessons, the work in individual working groups (preparation of songs, practicing instruments, creating collages, working in the computer room) is very popular.
As far as possible, pupils of all age groups have the possibility to actively use the school’s instruments and to integrate them into the lessons. The school’s equipment includes a class set of guitars, a class set of keyboards in a separate music room, and two class sets of Orff instruments. Next to all this, singing is not being neglected. There are pianos in all classrooms, which are used regularly by pupils who practice during their breaks.
The school is also equipped with class sets of various music school books for the grades 5-10, as well as class sets of a variety of song books.
One core area of the musical education at the Robert-Bosch-Comprehensive School is the “Bläserklassen“ (“blowing classes“ - instead of having regular music lessons, the pupils start learning a new wind instrument in grade 5 and play in the orchestra with the rest of their class) in the grades 5 and 6. The “Bläserklassen“ are very popular. There is a “school band” working group in the grades 7-10 and one in the grades 11-13. There is also a school choir. All of these musical groups perform at school events or local public events regularly. Musical education is, of course, a recurring aspect of our All Day Department, too. Musically educated parents practice with the pupils regularly in the department rooms in group lessons.
