Information about grade 8

(This text was generated in the last year. It will be updated next month.)

The team of grade 8 has been restructured with several new colleagues. In order to integrate these new colleagues as quickly as possible, we have arranged intense team work with regular team meetings in addition to the exams conference at the end of the school year. These team meetings are held to coordinate processes, promote the creation of a pedagogical consensus, and inform the new teachers about the historic development of our school. The Robert-Bosch Comprehensive School has been a UNESCO project school for years. This has also contributed to the origin of our general concept, which can be found in the lessons and everyday school life as well as in the social dedication. Furthermore, everybody participates in supervision.

At the exam conference at the end of the school year we have agreed on a year plan. Markings in the same colour indicate possible interdisciplinary combinations, allow cooperation, and refer to previous knowledge.

In this school year the methodological components “Time Management, Reports, and Presentations” are introduced. Cooperative learning strategies help the students to organize their learning process independently. Successes are documented in a portfolio. A given index makes the filing easier.

Furthermore, the students have the chance to get their first career orientation in the “Praxisparcours” and during the visit of the BIZ. They are supposed to express career interests and to find possible companies for the internship in grade 9. A visit to the “Zeche Zollverein”, a coal mine, offers an insight in the industry of the past.

References to the social curriculum are marked with an “S”. A student committee has been organized, which meets regularly. Its task will be supporting the social life in the 8th grade and thinking about the decoration of the D wing of our building.

A project day with the topic “Education” by the AIDS-Hilfe e.V. is planned, to teach the students that it is necessary to be responsible for themselves and others.

In addition to the traditional ways of communicating with parents and students, we will keep publishing the “Jahrgangsspiegel” flyer. It will be available online and as a hard copy and it is designed by students and the Head of grade 8 to inform about school life, test dates, etc.. Mr. Bellersheim also helps designing the “Jahrgangsspiegel”.

When they transferred to the 8th grade, the students had to switch rooms and got new teachers. They have to adapt to these new conditions, set new goals for themselves, and start thinking about their degrees after grade 9 and 10

For a successful cooperation, parents and students will sign a contract. You can find this contract on page 9 of this PDF-Document ("Wir im 8" = “We in grade 8”).
